As we continue to celebrate the impact of philanthropy with FORGING FORWARD: The Campaign for Rowan University, on Day of Giving, we are reminded that gifts of every size can change lives.
During a recent event, President Houshmand shared a story about a gift that gave made a difference in his life:
In March 1975, after earning his high school diploma, he faced a choice: serve two years in the military in his home country or study abroad. His older brother, newly employed and ten years his senior, gave him $120—enough for a one-way ticket and $70 cash—to reach London. A week later, he was frying chicken for 50 cents an hour, working weekends to cover his expenses.
"That $120 changed my life; without it, I might have ended up dead or destitute. Instead, I now lead a great university with thousands of students and staff. Last fall, 50 years later, I reunited with my brother in Istanbul to thank him for giving me that chance."
As we forge forward, enhancing the student experience, catalyzing research and innovation, and building the university of the future, your gift today could change someone's life forever.
Collectively, small gifts can really add up. Over the last 11 years, Day of Giving has raised over $2.1 million to secure a better and brighter future for our students and the Rowan community.
Double your impact: Thanks to our leadership, boards and other incredible supporters, you can double the impact of your gift by meeting any of our matches and challenges.
